Andy VF says…B Movie originated during the first lockdown in 2020, one of a bunch of songs that I started when furloughed from my day job. The chance to work daily on music was incredible! The ‘Original Draft’ version here is just that - the very first version I recorded, without any samples or vocals. It also had my original bass (later replaced with a much sharper version by [VF bassist] Hoops). I sent all this over to Jon (VF keys), who has a much better home studio setup, and he recorded keys and we added all the classic sci-fi samples. It was now sounding much more like the finished version. I said to Jon - “how about some backing vocals like on Bowie’s Absolute Beginners?”. Half an hour later he’d done the chorus vocals, which were spot on! The alternate cover artwork reflects the retro sci-fi theme - I really liked it but it wasn’t as impactful as the yellow/red one. The video and DJ Skyjump remix followed much later, both released in 2023. And B Movie has gone on to become a VF live favourite…
"The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot." Carl Sagan Sage words from a man that changed the way we see our world and other worlds. You cannot look up at the night sky without wondering, what if? In such a vast expanse, we cannot be the only ones. I for one, would love to Know what's on the far side of the sun.
This is my very first recorded song. Written between buzzing London whilst living in the house of the Firestarter (Prodigy) and my fathers wooden home on a Swiss hill. Only in retrospective I realized how much the lyrics reflected my own struggle to find a way of following my dream of music and expression whilst hiding at the same time...but in the end there is a light in all of us. Home means whatever you want it to mean.
I gave myself a challenge where I tried to write music every day for at least 30 minutes. Most days I wrote longer than that, but some days I fell of the band wagon, but this is from a collection of songwriting challenges that I set myself. I tried to keep the themes quite similar and consistent as if i was writing a new album. Some of these songs may end up in my new album, but some may disappear and will only be accessible here to holders of this Songcard collection.
With this, we wanted to offer you the chance to get to know more about Sky Diving Penguins. More about what came before 'IDWIDC', so that you can hear how the sound evolved. Hopefully, a copy of Gia's (Mr Sky Diving Penguins) handwritten lyrics also brings you closer to both the song and Sky Diving Penguins.
Hi buds, glad to see you ! I'm Warren Burnett, American instrumental ambient composer from Massachusetts, inspired by nature, human feelings and Blues, on the independent label Phoenix Records. Multi-instrumentalist, my specialty is Melodic acoustic guitar. With time I created my own style with influences like Dave Matthews or Michael Hedges, passing by Days of the New, City and Colour or kings of Leon. Using lots of ambient sounds, I composed so far 9 albums and 1 EP. Now I'm excited to present you my fresh new product named "Songcard" that gathers 8 of my best tracks (included "Into the Unknown", "Roads Beyond", "Black as Night"), many pictures and live video shows and a special rare TV interview by Gary Blanchard of Creative Connections. Follow me into the... Unknown !
Faun Stella is the 3rd Artist to join the Songcard Collection, as reflected in the special edition cover art of the project's debut single, The Isle & The Sea. The song is an ethereal (yet funky) blend of Chamber Pop and Roots Music that reminds us 'summer's inside of us all'.
